What is Overlanding
Simply put, Overlanding is when you take your Jeep or any off-road vehicle on-road and off-road adventure travel focusing on self-reliance, resilience, and enjoyment of the journey. Overlanding has captured the imagination of eager adventurers worldwide. At the heart of Overlanding is a love of the great outdoors, camping culture, and exploring new places. There are regional and national gatherings, and various expos feature training, vendors, and expansive outdoor venues.
Where did Overlanding start?
Overlanding started in the early 1900s when Australians began establishing routes for long-distance travel within the continent. Although it was primarily used for trading farm animals, drovers used these trade routes to transport livestock to markets on foot. Years later, Overlanding took on a different meaning and would become an outdoorsman activity inspired by road builder, pioneer, and surveyor Leonard "Len" Beadell in the 1940s.
Is Overlanding the same as camping?
Overlanding, unlike off-roading or camping, involves long-distance travel to remote locations that are under-documented and where little prior exploration has occurred. Of course, Overlanding also involves off-roading challenges, like crawling on massive boulders, wading in deep waters, slogging through mud, and sprinting across a dry lakebed. However, the main draw is taking yourself off-grid and venturing into the unknown, and doing so for days, weeks, months, and even years at a time, depending on the journey.
What to bring with you when you go Overlanding?
Several vehicle types can be made into capable Overlanding rigs, including SUVs, trucks, crossovers, vans, and motorcycles, some popular models for vehicle-supported adventure are the highly capable Jeep Grand Cherokee or the legendary Wrangler. But it's a good idea to remember that an Overlanding rig is a tool that helps you reach your destination. Therefore, the equipment and tools you bring are just as important items, such as plenty of water, a first-aid kit, food, tools, utility jugs, a full-size spare, camping supplies, and toiletry items.
Does Jeep make an Overlanding Trailer?
Jeep and ADDAX Overland have co-launch the Jeep-branded Edition by ADDAX Overland Trailer. This trailer was inspired by the U.S. military's all-but-indestructible surveillance trailers and engineered by the team that set a world land speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats. This trailer offers an unprecedented dry weight of just 850 pounds. The 3/16-inch military-grade steel chassis and 14-gauge steel body are seamlessly bent instead of welded to deliver industry-leading durability. In addition, the Jeep-branded Edition by ADDAX Overland Trailer's independent torsion axle trailer suspension system provides an aggressive 17 inches of ground clearance for maximum maneuverability, control, and comfort.

It should come as no surprise that Jeep is one of the world leaders in 4x4 technology. Choose an all-weather-capable Jeep 4x4 system to master any terrain and help feed your passion for adventure. Jeep's range of sophisticated 4x4 systems lets you find your way up, down, though, almost anything.
