Learn More from Flagler CDJR!
When muscle car enthusiasts asked for a family car without sacrificing exhilarating performance, Dodge answered the call with the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat! Proudly the fastest, most powerful SUV on the planet, the Durango SRT Hellcat features the same engine as the Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcat models and, as those two have been discontinued after the 2023 model year, the Durango Hellcat persists in 2024. Producing more than 700 horsepower, this family car is anything but tame! Please read below to learn more about the 2024 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat and the excitement it brings!
What Powers the 2024 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat?
Dodge introduced the Hellcat engine to the Charger and Challenger lineups in 2015 before expanding it to the Durango lineup in 2021. After skipping the 2022 model year, the Durango Hellcat returned for 2023 and continues into the 2024 model year. The Hellcat engine, produced by Dodge's Street, Road, and Track (SRT) division, is a 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V8. Underneath the Durango's hood, the supercharged engine shakes the ground with 710 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque, bringing the Durango Hellcat 0-60 in just 3.5 seconds! Mounted to the cylinder head, the 2.38-liter twin-screw supercharger provides the engine with 11.6 pounds per square inch (PSI) of boost with a maximum speed of up to 14,600 RPM. The strategic placement of the twin-screw rotors positions them close together to reduce air leakage and maximize the supercharger's performance. The Hellcat's engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. However, it offers manual sequential shifting with steering wheel paddle shifters for a more hands-on driving experience. Power is sent through the transmission to power an impressive all-wheel drive system for maximum traction. No matter the road surface and condition, the Durango Hellcat's powertrain can be optimized using Auto, Sport, Track, Eco, Valet, and Snow drive modes. Finally, the ground-shaking roar of the HEMI V8 is emitted through an active exhaust system.
What Performance Enhancing Features Does it Offer?
The entire Dodge lineup boasts aggressive looks throughout. However, it doesn't get much more aggressive than a large SUV with a hood scoop, wide fenders, and a forward-leaning stance. In addition to the aggressive design, the Durango Hellcat features functional components adding to both the performance and muscular style. A large functional hood scoop and an air scoop on the lower front fascia feed plenty of cold air to the engine, while the hood scoop boasts Dodge's unique muscle car style. Another performance-enhancing feature is the Bilstein Active Damping suspension system. Damping is another word for shock absorption, while active means that the suspension is constantly reading road conditions and adjusting to changes to provide a smoother ride with better handling. Meanwhile, traditional suspension systems typically have fixed damping, meaning it stays the same no matter the driving surface or situation. This allows Durango Hellcat drivers to hug the corners even at higher speeds for an exciting experience. Bringing the Hellcat to a stop is a Brembo high-performance braking system with six-piston calipers because a powerful engine requires powerful brakes, and with history in multiple forms of automobile racing, Brembo was the way to go!
Is the 2024 Durango Hellcat Comfortable?
Dodge has always provided drivers with a unique driving experience. Stepping behind the wheel of the Durango Hellcat, you'll find the center stack to be leaned slightly toward the driver, giving a cockpit-like, in-command feel. Adding to this cockpit-like feel are things like a 7-inch digital driving information display between an analog speedometer and tachometer, push-button start, an electronic T-shifter, a 10.1-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen, and a comfortable leather-wrapped steering wheel. Keeping you comfortable along your journeys is Nappa leather upholstery, heated/ventilated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a wireless charging pad. As we said, the Durango Hellcat is a high-performance family car, offering room for six with two front bucket seats, second-row captain's chairs, and a third-row two-seat bench. The first and second-row seats feature an SRT badge on the seatbacks, matching the one on the steering wheel, replacing the standard Dodge Rhombi emblem. Second-row passengers enjoy a center console similar to the one in front, offering two illuminated cupholders.Â
