2022 Wagoneer vs 2022 Grand Wagoneer

The Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer reigned the SUV segment from 1963 until production halted in 1991. Even after production ended, the legacy of the two models remained. For the 2022 model year, the legacy has been reborn. The name Wagoneer is returning to the automotive industry as a premium extension of the Jeep brand. While both models offer amazing features rarely found throughout the automotive industry, they both differ from each other inside and out. Keep reading below to learn the differences between the 2022 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer to help you choose which is best for you!

Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer exterior differences

The Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer both follow the same body design and have LED lighting, roof rails, and an iconic seven-slot grille. Both models also offer wheel options ranging from 18 inches to 22 inches. In addition, the Grand Wagoneer features accents to set itself apart in subtle ways. It features more chrome, a Gloss Black roof, upgraded LED lighting accents, a more pronounced hood, and power-retractable running boards. The Grand Wagoneer also has a few extra exterior color choices. Besides those few differences, the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer look very similar.

Interior differences

The Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer both feature a signature two-spoke steering wheel, similar to the one found in the original models. The main difference found inside the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer is the seating layout. The Wagoneer features seating for eight with a three-person second-row bench seat, while second-row captain's chairs are optional for a seven-seat layout. Meanwhile, the Grand Wagoneer is opposite, featuring second-row captain's chairs for seven seats, while a second-row bench is an eight-seat option. In addition, while the Wagoneer features three-zone automatic climate control, the Grand Wagoneer features four-zone climate control with a front and rear 10.25-inch climate control touchscreen. The Wagoneer's seats are Nappa leather-trimmed with 12-way power-adjustable front seats. Seating in the Grand Wagoneer is more supple with Palermo leather and 24-way power front seats. Also, while the Wagoneer features an industrial-looking metal dash trim, the Grand Wagoneer features real wood on the dash trim. The dashboard layout is also slightly different. The Wagoneer features a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, while the Grand Wagoneer features a 12-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.

Differences in powertrains

Both models feature a V8 engine mated to a TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission. The Wagoneer comes with a 5.7L V8 engine with eTorque mild-hybrid technology that's good for 392 horsepower and 404 lb-ft of torque. In addition, the Wagoneer can haul up to 10,000 pounds when properly equipped. For the Grand Wagoneer, the 5.7L engine is swapped out for a 6.4L V8 that kicks out a robust 471 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque, getting this full-size SUV to 60 from a dead stop in just six seconds. The Grand Wagoneer is capable of hauling up to 9,860 pounds.

Drivetrain differences

The Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are both body-on-frame SUVs. The Wagoneer comes standard with rear-wheel drive, while three 4x4 systems are available, Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II, with an electronic limited-slip rear differential. The Wagoneer also comes standard with coil spring suspension with 8 inches of ground clearance. Quadra-Lift air suspension is optional to raise the ground clearance to 10 inches. Meanwhile, the Grand Wagoneer comes standard with Quadra-Trac I 4x4, while the other two systems are available. Additionally, Quadra-Lift is standard for the Grand Wagoneer, allowing drivers to set the ride height for greater ground clearance, better performance, and easy entrance and exit.
