HYBRID TECHNOLOGY

HYBRID MODE

The default mode, Hybrid, combines torque from both the 2.0L turbocharged engine and the electric motors. This combination provides maximum horsepower, instant torque and the best acceleration. Electric power is consumed first.

ELECTRIC MODE

When the battery has more than a 1% charge, it can run in Electric Mode. This allows for nearly zero tailpipe emissions up to highway speeds. The vehicle can run in this mode for up to 21 miles.

RANGE

SEIZE THE DRIVE

E-Selec driving modes put you in control. Electric Mode uses only battery power for low-emissions zones in cities or quiet off-roading with maximum torque and horsepower, while eSave Mode reserves battery power for later. Hybrid Mode gives you the best of both worlds. Preproduction model shown.

SAY GOODBYE TO RANGE ANXIETY

Whether you want to take off-road adventure to new places or simply get around town on all-electric power, the Wrangler 4xe is ready with an EPA estimated 49 MPGe rating. E-Selec driving modes that utilize Power Routing enable you to optimize performance while eliminating range anxiety.

CAPABILITY

POWER THROUGH

Climb over tough obstacles and go an electrifying 0-60 mph in 6 seconds. A plug-in hybrid turbocharged engine gives the Wrangler 4xe an impressive 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of instant torque for heart-pounding performance off-road and on-road.

A 4X4 FIRST AND FOREMOST

The Wrangler 4xe system is paired with a 2.0L I4 DOHC direct-injection Turbo PHEV engine to bring out the best in already proven JeepĀ® Brand 4x4 capability. A 16-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, regenerative brake booster and eight-speed automatic transmission work together to send impressive amounts of power and torque to each wheel, maximizing the capability of every component. The sealed and waterproof battery pack and electronics even perform in tough conditions like fording creeks and streams up to 30 inches in depth. Preproduction model shown.

2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Capability

Just because the 4xe is a plug-in hybrid doesn't take away from the fact that it's still a Wrangler. To symbolize this, the Wrangler 4xe has the same Trail Rated badge as all other Wrangler models do. The hybrid technology actually makes the Wrangler 4xe more capable by providing instantaneous torque. With the Wrangler 4xe's hybrid system, 470 lb-ft of torque is instantly available without the driver needing to raise RPMs to get the wheels to move. All 4xe trim levels are equipped with 4x4 systems and a Selec-Trac two-speed transfer case with a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio. Next-generation Dana 44 solid axles are used for the 4xe to instill confidence in drivers no matter where their travels take them. The Wrangler Rubicon has long been an off-road vehicle without much competition, and the Wrangler 4xe Rubicon is no different! It will have all the same Rubicon features, including 33-inch all-terrain tires, a two-speed transfer case with a 4:1 low-range gear ratio, Rock-Trac 4x4, Tru-Lok electronic front and rear differentials, and an electronic disconnecting front sway bar for extra articulation and suspension travel.

How is the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Powered?

The 4xe's hybrid system takes the power of a 2.0L turbocharged I4 and pairs it with two electric motors, one on the cylinder head and the other in front of the TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission in place of the torque converter. The 400-volt battery pack is housed under the rear seats to be protected from water, dirt, and debris. The combination of the turbocharged engine and two generators cranks out 375 horsepower, 470 lb-ft of torque, a fully electric driving range of up to 21 miles, a hybrid range of up to 379 miles and up to 50 MPG gas equivalent. In addition to being plugged in, the 4xe also employs regenerative braking to charge the hybrid battery when the car is braking or decelerating. Regenerative braking also helps the vehicle slow down on its own, extending the life of your brake pads. To get the best hybrid experience, drivers can use the E-Selec Modes. The system defaults to hybrid mode, which uses electric power first, then the gas engine will kick in when the driver requests more power. Electric mode gives drivers a near-silent and zero-emissions drive and will turn off when minimum charge is reached. The gas engine will engage when more power is requested. Lastly, E-Save mode uses just gas power to save the electric power for later.
